Goodness
A bright, low-calorie, dairy-free salsa. Pumpkin is rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A, for eyes, skin and immunity), and tomato adds lycopene, which is absorbed better with the small amount of cold-pressed sesame oil included. It is vegan, gluten-free, nut-free and low in sugar, so it's an easy way to add vegetables to meals.
Label claims
High in Vitamin A; Source of Vitamin C, Vitamin E; Low sugar; No added sugar; Naturally gluten-free (verify < 20 ppm); Vegan / plant-based
Who should avoid
• Sesame allergy: contains sesame (gingelly) oil (cold-pressed sesame oil retains allergenic protein).
• Strict Jain diet: contains root vegetables (garlic).
• Satvik / no-onion-no-garlic diets (incl. many vrat/fasting customs): contains garlic.
• Infants under 12 months: salted product; infant kidneys cannot handle added salt.
• Active peptic ulcer, erosive gastritis, or a severe acid-reflux flare: strong spice/acid load irritates the stomach lining.
Consume less / with caution
• High blood pressure / sodium-restricted diets: moderate sodium (574 mg/100 g; ~172 mg per serve).
• Mild acid reflux / sensitive stomach (outside flares): take after food, not on an empty stomach (chilli, raw garlic and tomato).
• IBS / bloating-prone people: garlic (fructans) may trigger gas or loose stools; start with half a serve.
• Histamine intolerance / chronic hives: tomato can release or contain histamine.
